The importance of having a mentor in all areas of your life cannot be overstated. Whether that is health, fitness, financial, business, parenting etc.
A good mentor inspires you, stretches you, connects you, develops your EQ, opens your mind and most importantly, doesn’t judge. They provide a safe space to learn, experiment and ask questions, no matter how seemingly stupid.
I have been trading 25 years, and it is the one area of my life where mentoring is a must. I still get mentored. For example, in May 2017, I went to Poland to meet with a renowned trading guru for one-to-one training for two days. In July 2017, I went on another course. I never stop improving my financial skill set.
In short, Mentorship is a way to soak up the wisdom of those who have gone before you, in a way that sticks.

Most people are in a JOB which stands for Just Over Broke. It’s so true. No matter what pay rises we receive, we just spend the additional earnings (after tax !!) on an upgraded car, holidays, the kids education or their teeth!! The list is endless. We can never pull ourselves out of the continuous financial drain which we all face on a monthly basis.
Whenever we think of changing our financial circumstances, we just get overwhelmed with the options out there and believe that we just don’t have enough funds or knowledge to get started. We know there is a financial world out there, but we believe that is just for other people “in the know”.
Let me tell you this and I really want you to get this. You CAN participate in the financial markets and you can become more successful than most traders in these markets. You just need to be shown how. It is as simple as that. You don’t need a lot of money to start. But you need a willingness to participate and learn. And you need patience to allow compounding to work its magic.
In Sept 2017, I cycled from Paris to Nice with 42 other cyclists to raise money for charity. I’m the guy with the helmet in the air.
I trained with a group of guys for months leading up to the main cycle and obviously I got to know my group very well as we had long discussions on the saddle about lots of different topics. Some of those discussions were about trading. A group of them asked me if I would teach them to how to trade.
Why I am doing this?
So on the evening of Mon Nov 6th 2017, I delivered a masterclass on trading for the guys. I showed them how to place trades but more importantly how to manage risk. You cannot enter the trading world without getting mentored. I set up a WhatsApp group which allowed me to alert them to when I was taking a trade. The guys opened demo accounts and have learnt to trade in a live environment. The WhatsaApp group allowed the opportunity for people to ask me questions. Based on these questions, I decided to record some videos.
On Wed Nov 8th 2017 I launched a €10,000 live trading account that everyone can view. There is no point in mentoring on how to trade if I cannot substantiate the training. It is hugely important for people to build confidence in the trading strategies if they see it operate live. More importantly it is important for people to see risk management being implemented in a live trading portfolio. Mentoring the guys and running a live portfolio that they follow is key to everyone’s success. And personally, I enjoy doing it this way. It keeps me focussed and sharp.
Compounding
My goal is to show the guys that if I achieve 8% return per month, then the €10,000 portfolio will grow into €1,012,570 within 60 months. This is the true power of compounding.
As Einstein quoted “Compounding is the 8th wonder of the world”. Compounding means earning interest on the interest you have already made. It is mind-blowing how much money you can make by earning interest on interest and letting it accumulate.
One of the best gifts I can give my kids is to teach them the power of compounding. My 17-year-old son has invested €1,400 of his savings and if he compounds his €1,400 at 8% per month from now till age 25, his account will be worth €1,663,847 (92 months). Now that would be a great start in his life. I will try and encourage my daughter to do the same when she is the same age. I just wished they taught this at school.
